That is a colony of dozens of spore capsules which, in this genus ( Stemonitis ), tend to fuse together. The chocolate stage is close to maturity and spore release. The second image is of another Stemonitis, soon after emergence, which will eventually be brown . These are, maybe, 2-3mm tall.
All the images are of slime moulds, Myxomycetes. They have a similar lifestyle to fungi but are colonial amoebae and protozoa. They have a plasmodium, equivalent to fungal hyphae, which creeps slowly to find food until it produces these spore-forming bodies, which are static.
