Solution 1 would be a real stereo camera,
solution 2 would be a beam splitter in front of the normal camera,
solution 3 would be a well-synchronized "rig" of two cameras.

That would also help with water, branches, animals, cars, etc.

Solutions 1 & 2 cannot do what I do, which is to keep the centre of the subject +/- the same in both frames, mimicing how the eyes angle inwards for close or, for many of mine, very close subjects.

In theory the ideal stereo camera should shift the lenses inward when focusing closer (or we crop the frames to simulate the effect). If we angle the lenses inward, we get perspective distortion that might become distracting in some intances.
