Mostly, they move. If they remain in place, or if I can follow them around, I just keep shooting until they don't move between shots. I have been known to digitally amputate limbs! :)

A bigger problem is light (WB) changing, sometimes due to moving clouds or maybe shadows of moving branches.

Some insects may not move but remain looking away from the camera.

The skill is to see these things happening.

This slime mold is the first (still no mushrooms) after months of drought.

Olympus EM-1, Olympus m4/3 30mm macro at f11.

The fuzzy surface is due to fine surface, spore-bearing structures. The ghostly, larger, transparent blobs are undifferentiated plasmodium.

Photographed in bright, cloudy daylight, hand held.

Update: As is often the case with this species, the following day I found the colony shriveled and it will not recover.

My recent post showed a chaotic, rather disorganized colony. Although the shapes are never regular, these images show a more typical assortment.

This is the tree rather than the popular C. horizontalis .


Sony A7r3, Tamron Adaptall-2 35-80mm ay f5.6 on matched x2 TC.


The comment here suggested that I should try this combination.

I am a bit disappointed, although the first images are pleasing.


I was mainly interested in the leaf and berry colors. I'm sure it can do more with fine detail.
