autoplastic otpik cannot be relied upon
my experience with autofocus is that too often situations like when something nteresting cattches my attention the wrong element gets focussed on. Twigs in he forest are sharp while the deer I try to picture remains unsharp until it decides to escape. Hence i prefer lenses that I can control manually wothout pressing all manner of buttons when I wish to concentrate on the motive.
Also soliditry matters. A plastic Canon autolens split open after a short drop while changing lenses which my Leitz - M metal construction easily would have survived intact. Not that I go around dropping equipment, but robustness hellps keep kit functional whle moving about.
Another strong motive is cost. (I stocked up on Leitz R and Zeiss C/Y plus very few Minoltas when they were deeply unfashionable) and find that both they and my 20year old M-mount stuff still performs as well as the recent Nikon stuff that belongs to my current Z-7.
I do not chase reflections and Haze but do like to try exotic stuff to see what can be achieved. Trying the odd Takumar, some projection lenses plus antediluvian Novoflex, Angenieux and Kinoptik long focus sturff has given satisfactory results . Although i must admit to buying old DDR optics to match their contemporary KW bodies but find the more recent sonnar, pancolar and Flektogon MC preferable to the older editions.
